Dance & Movement, Nia Technique

Dance & Movement

Dance is said to be the oldest form of cultural expression. It is also touted as a form of communication. Dance movement therapy is based on the premise that the mind and body and spirit are interconnected. That through the therapeutic use of movement and dance, emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration can be achieved.

Nia Technique

Nia Technique

Nia technique is a cardiovascular dance exercise taught with foundational principles of mindful movement and guidance. Special attention to slowly warm-up periods and moderate cool down periods focussing on non-impact aerobic conditioning.

Nia is a cross between yoga, karate, and jazzercise. It is taught like a martial art, with the unique dance forms being similar to Katas. These Katas are performed to music to provide rhythmical intent to the exercises and techniques.
