Remedial Therapy

At the core of this healing modality is the idea that the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body will result in the relaxation of the body, reducing stress, both mentally and physically.

Remedial therapy techniques rely on the various body systems two ways. First, the mechanical action and 2 nd the reflex action.

The mechanical action focuses on moving the muscles and soft tissues of the body by applying pressure and movement. This action cleanses the tissues of acids and other deposits.

The mechanical action focuses on breaking up fibrous tissue and loosens stiff joints.

Practitioners of this healing modality are well versed in the connective tissues and pathways of the body apply a wide variety of techniques depending on the condition of the soft tissue. Isolating areas of pain and then determining the source of the pain or offending condition.

Although the primary mandate of this practice is rectification the secondary direction for this massage technique is to restore mobility and promote activity and patients often consult remedial practitioners for assistance developing programs of increased mobility.

Remedial therapy is a regulated practice requiring practitioners to be certified but many operate outside of the scope of regulations consciously focussing on the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing. Some practitioners employ intuitive techniques in order to detect physical and emotional problems that may be contributing to the affliction.

Remedial massage helps to de-stress and loosen up your body, but often is used for particular muscle tension or chronic pain. The remedial massage practitioner will assess what may be causing your pain and prescribe protocols to remedy the situation. Treatments often require deep tissue work. Deep tissue massage utilises the principles of Swedish massage. At the core of this healing modality is the idea that through deep penetrating pressure to the protective layers surrounding muscles, bones and joints chronic muscle tension can be released and eliminated.

This is an evidence based modality which causes the release of oxytocin and serotonin in patients and is recognised as a means of reducing blood pressure, hormone levels and heart rates.

Massage Sports

The defining principles of sports massage are said to be Timing, Technique and Intent. Timing being the appropriate time for the treatment whether preventative or post injury. Technique being the appropriate treatment for the injury and intent being the clear goals of the therapy agreed to and supported by the patient.

This modality combines traditional massage techniques with hydrotherapy protocols and a range of motion and flexibility protocols to strengthen the body and support health functionality.
